There's a new level of commitment and excitement coming to Downtown Atlanta,
highlighted by a strong partnership between the City
of Atlanta and Central Atlanta Progress.
On June 16 we rolled out a comprehensive 100-day Downtown Initiative
that will focus the collective interest of the City, Central Atlanta Progress,
the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and others, on key issues that
will change Downtown in many positive ways.
The 100-day Downtown Initiative includes:
- Woodruff Park Lunchtime Series
Daily entertainment weekdays noon to 1 p.m., June 16 through Sept. 26.
Live music & spoken word, street performers, ice cream and tai chi
lessons will make Woodruff Park the place to be. Click

- Increased Police Presence & Enforcement
20 additional City of Atlanta Police officers and new recruits will
be deployed Downtown, bringing to 59 the total of Downtown officers
on foot/bike patrol. These officers will be on the front line, enforcing
quality-of-life and other related ordinances such as panhandling and
disorderly conduct. Particular focus will be Peachtree corridor, Woodruff
Park, Five Points, and Peachtree Center MARTA stations. This effort
include participating of other certifified law enforcement agencies
with overlapping jurisdictions in Downtown (e.g. GSU Police, MARTA Police,
etc.) and the participation of the CAP/ADID Ambassador
Force.
- Cleaning
The City of Atlanta Trash Troopers will be deployed, along with GSU
and ADID Clean Team, to focus on increased cleaning of Woodruff Park,
Broad Street Plaza and Downtown streets.
- Streetscape Improvements & Infrastructure
In partnership with the City Parks and Recreation Department, the Atlanta
Downtown Improvement District, Trees Atlanta, and Post Properties will
see to the installation and maintenance of 150 flower baskets, 120 bicycle
racks, 115 street banners, and also inventory and address issue such
as illegal newspaper boxes, signage, sidewalks, and more.
- Vending Improvement
In partnership with the City Plannning, Public Works and Atlanta Police
Departments, the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District will see to removal
of 34 permitted vending structures owned by the City and fund the replacement
of new standardized and legal vending stations in the Downtown
area. In addition, there will be stepped up enforcement of all parameters
of the existing City vending ordinance as it refers to location, display
size and permitting.
