“The new Zone Five Mini-Precinct captures the spirit and momentum of a resurgent Downtown newly energized and primed for continuing growth,” noted Jeffrey L. Portman, president and chief operating officer of AmericasMart parent AMC, Inc. “As our Downtown community continues to advance, powered by large-scale development unprecedented in Atlanta’s history, we are challenged to help support this growth with time, energy, talent, vision and resources. This Zone Five facility is a needed and natural response to the growth that surrounds us,” Portman added. The Mini-Precinct, a 7,000 square-foot facilityheaded by APD Major Lane Hagin, is headquarters for Zone Five’s more than 70 foot and bike patrol officers and serves as the command center for the APD’s Integrated Camera Surveillance program. The Surveillance program facilitates the monitoring of more than one dozen new surveillance cameras in what is known as the “Downtown tourist triangle.” AmericasMart Atlanta has enhanced its own state-of-the-art security system now featuring more than 50 additional surveillance cameras which surround the property. “Thanks to the generosity of AmericasMart, Downtown’s largest property owner, the opening of the Zone 5 Mini-Precinct is another step forward in enhancing the safety of our rapidly growing neighborhood,” said A.J. Robinson, president, Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. “We’re pleased to be an integral component of ensuring an even safer environment by providing the start-up funding for the new surveillance camera program.”
