Opening its doors March 1, the museum will provide young children and families with fun and creative hands-on learning. Located at the intersection of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Baker Street, across from Centennial Olympic Park and the future location of the Georgia Aquarium and Coca Cola attraction, the museum will make the neighborhood into one of the fastest growing, child-friendly places to visit in Atlanta. The museum is designed to encourage familes to ut their imagination to the test as they participate in critical thinking activities, such as becoming a gardener, collaborating on building a giant maze or being the architect of a sand castle. The 30,000-square-foot museum includes five learning zones and a broad spectrum of activities, performances and educational opportunities for children, their families and teachers. Publix supermarkets has contributed towards Fundamentally Food, an interactive exhibit on food, entered through a colorful, fanciful food portal made of giant potatoes with an asparagus and green pea archway, slices of Swiss cheese and colorful fruits. Once they’re inside they’ll discover where food comes from, how it is transported and how it is weighed and measured. They translate information about nutrition into recipes, use food to create art and load an 18-wheeler using a forklift.
The management at Centennial Olympic Park are looking forward to the museum. "The Park is the perfect front yard for the museum," said Mark Banta, general manager of Centennial Olympic Park. "We're excited to have a neighbor that shares an interest in providing Atlanta families with educational, fun and entertaining programming." Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $11 per person and children under the age of two are free. Groups will enjoy a discounted rate and family membership packages. Due to the size of the exhibits and space, advance reservations are strongly encouraged. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the museum's web site at http://www.imagineit-cma.org.
