July 21, 2004

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) have initiated the Alternatives Analysis/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (AA/DEIS) phase of project development for the Northwest Corridor (1-75/1-575) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV)/Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project.

The Northwest Corridor HOV/BRT Project proposes construction of HOV lanes along I75 and implementation of a BRT system along the 1-75 corridor from Cobb County to Downtown Atlanta. Proposed HOV lanes and BRT stations are located along 1-75 between Akers Mill Rd. and Wade Green Rd. HOV lanes are also proposed on 1-575 from the 1-75/1-575 Interchange to Sixes Road in Cherokee County.
