Walk There! Challenge Gets Downtown Employees Moving The Downtown Transportation Management Association (TMA) announced Alana Long of Georgia Pacific Corporation and Carolyn Richardson of Georgia State University, as winners of its April Walk There! Challenge. Both won weekend get-a-ways in Downtown Atlanta, complete with tickets to a Theatrical Outfit performance, certificates for dinner and stays at Downtown Hotels. During the Walk There! Challenge, the total mileage each contestant covered would take them from Woodruff Park in Downtown Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina. During the month of April, the Downtown TMA along with the region’s seven other TMAs and the Clean Air Campaign held its annual Walk There! Challenge. The competition challenged its participants to track and log steps that they took each day. Many Downtown employees took this as an opportunity to walk their short commute to work. Some participants described walking to work “energizing” and helpful as they prepared for the day ahead. The challenge also encouraged walking to as many destinations as possible such as lunchtime eateries and regular errands, like the dry cleaners and bank. Over 550 Downtown employees participated in the April Walk There! Challenge. To track progress, participants were provided pedometers and educational pamphlets before beginning the Challenge. Each participant logged their steps with Commuter Rewards, an online commute tracking program. The combined steps of all the participants would have equaled three trips from Downtown Atlanta, GA to Seattle, WA and back. About the Downtown TMA |
