"The Atlanta Streetcar System is the latest public transit agency to sign on with Portland mobile ticketing firm Moovel North America.

However, this version of Moovel's ticketing app will include technology designed by Portland security startup Tozny that allows mobile devices to authenticate without a password. As a result, users can interact with the app without the need to create, or enter, yet another password.

The partnership between Moovel and Tozny is part of a pilot program funded by the National Institute for Standards and Technology. Moovel has integrated with Tozny since that program was announced last year.

“The Tozny solution was designed so that it could be rolled out to other Moovel apps. As a part of the Atlanta Streetcar launch, Moovel will work with Atlanta to gauge the user experience and iterate on a password-free solution,” said Moovel spokeswoman Patti Kelly in an email.

The app and the password-free technology is currently in a 30-day beta test in Atlanta."
