Bent Frequency presents "Music for a Captive Audience” on the Atlanta Streetcar

October 19,2015

"Music for a Captive Audience" turns the newest downtown feature, The Atlanta Streetcar, into Atlanta’s first mobile performance venue! For 14 hours during Elevate 2015, musicians from Atlanta’s premiere contemporary music ensemble Bent Frequency will occupy the street car to give FREE concerts to all riders for the duration of the loop route. These Streetcar performances will feature 12 musicians performing in various combinations of solos, duos, trios, and quartets. Visitors, concertgoers and adventure seekers will experience a unique sonic landscape while discovering what makes Atlanta unique, culturally and historically.

Hailed as “one of the brightest new music ensembles on the scene today” by Gramophone magazine, Bent Frequency (BF) is a performance ensemble possessing a vision to redefine the traditional music experience - ushering it from the strict formality of the concert hall into the fresh air of contemporary artistic expression and experimentation. Founded in 2003, the group brings the avant-garde music tradition to life through adventurous programming, the promotion of New Music, and a creative synthesis of music and media. At the heart of the ensemble is the unparalleled musicianship of the Bent Frequency performers, an eclectic mix of the most adventurous and impassioned players from the greater Atlanta area. This includes musicians from the Atlanta Symphony, Opera and Ballet as well as Atlanta’s fertile independent music community.
In keeping with our mission, BF has partnered with many ensembles, dance groups, and visual artists in creating unique productions. Recent collaborations include: Comala with Rochester-based PUSH Physical Theater, a John Cage MUSICIRCUS with the Goat Farm, Atlanta Poet’s group and visual artist Craig Dongoski, and numerous productions with CORE Performance Company at the High Museum of Art, Callanwolde Arts Center and The Goat Farm. Always looking for new ways to present music to reach as wide an audience as possible, Bent Frequency has performed in traditional concert halls, art museums, galleries, and even subway stations! BF has become the most active and visible contemporary music ensemble in the Southeast. For more information please visit www.bentfrequency.com
