CAP ADID and Midtown Alliance to donate segways to Atlanta Police Department

August 3,2016

Central Atlanta Progress/ Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and the Midtown Alliance Help the Atlanta Police Department Create a Safer City

Central Atlanta Progress/Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and the Midtown Alliance will donate 10 Segways to the Zone 5 precinct to help further enhance communication and interaction between officers and the public. This effort was initiated by APD after evaluating new ways to engage with citizens and visitors in the Midtown and Downtown areas. Essentially, this will get officers out of patrol cars, allowing them to be more mobile around these heavily populated areas. Segway training is also a benefit to the department, as officers can be trained at the precinct and up and running in one hour, while training to ride with the Path Force Bike Unit takes up to one week of specialized academy training. The plan is for Zone 5 officers to start using this equipment immediately.
