CAP/ADID Communications Associate Position Available

Central Atlanta Progress, Inc. (CAP) is a nonprofit corporation of Atlanta business leaders, property owners and institutions working with each other and with government since 1941 to help build a better center city. It carries out research and planning and acts as a catalyst for a wide range of programs and projects for the improvement of Downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID), founded in 1995 by CAP, is a public-private partnership that strives to create an attractive, safe and livable environment for Downtown.

Central Atlanta Progress is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated person to fill the position of Communications Associate. The position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, management, evaluation and monitoring of communications plans and projects involving marketing, fundraising, membership, media relations, public relations, branding, social media and other communications activities. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, this position requires duties across a wide range of activities within the spectrum of marketing and communications for Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:   

Marketing and Public Relations: 

 

  • Identifies and implements office efficiencies as directed by the Vice President of Marketing
  • Assists in development and execution of marketing and public relations programs
  • Works in coordination with Membership Manager on member growth and retention efforts
  • Develops and maintains contact database
  • Maintains database of media contacts
  • Writes and distributes press releases and produces media kits
  • Prepares media analysis and clip reports
  • Assists in fundraising efforts and prospect research
  • Manages special events
  • Creates and contributes to the content and design of print materials, including brochures and annual report
  • Works with staff to maintain a sensible and effective communications schedule for print, email, and web communications
  • Engages in periodic photography and videography activities
  • Engages in other activities as directed by supervisor

Interactive:

  • Works in coordination with Creative Director on web content creation and management
  • Gathers information and content for newsletter and social media initiatives
  • Stays updated on new social media opportunities and activities
  • Prepares regular reports of web visitor statistics

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn new web-based tools and software including CityLight, Adobe Illustrator/PhotoShop
  • Strong writing, speaking, and grammar skills
  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • Minimum 2‐5 years experience in communications, preferably for a non‐profit organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Team player willing to contribute in all areas of marketing and communications
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with deadlines
  • Understanding of and experience with web and email communications tools required
  • Experience with new media technologies, such as blogs, twitter, and online social marketing preferred
  • High energy, positive, “can‐do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative required
  • Ability to keep organized and up‐to‐date records
  • Strong computer literacy is essential: Mac and PC; MS Office
  • Experience with IT troubleshooting helpful

Position Classification

This is a full‐time position. Salary is $32,000 – $36,000, commensurate with experience. A competitive benefits package is provided.
