Central Atlanta Progress Sets Sights on ‘New’ Opportunities for Redevelopment

November 9,2009

ATLANTA, GA – In Downtown Atlanta it’s not just business as usual, as Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) continues to look towards the future redevelopment of the City Center. With 9 out of the 10 projects that were cited for redevelopment by the non-profit organization in 2003 now complete, CAP has created a new list of opportunities for redevelopment.

“We’re looking to the future proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, while knowing that the Downtown community can be even better,” said A.J. Robinson, President of Central Atlanta Progress.”All 10 of these new opportunities for redevelopment can and will be great assets for our City if the proper investment is made.”

This new list of projects, as its predecessor proved in 2003, starts a conversation with the current owners of each property and other Downtown stakeholders about options for revitalization. Even with some current development still on hold, an open dialogue on these projects will work to constructively expedite future efforts towards growth and renewal.

The outgoing Mayor is pleased with the progress so far, “Congratulations to Central Atlanta Progress and their partners for scoring 9 of 10 successes,” says Mayor Shirley Franklin.

Completing almost the entire original top 10 list of redevelopment opportunities leaves a high standard for this new set of projects.

The New Top 10 Opportunities for Redevelopment are:

Atlanta Constitution Building
Medical Arts Building*
Palms Hotel/Thrifty Car Rental
Top of MARTA 5 Points Station
222 Mitchell

Methodist Center
Rufus Rose House
Wheat Street Gardens Site
