Contemporary Art Center Announces Nexus Award Winner

January 4,2013

Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Lucinda Bunnen is the winner of the fourth-annual Nexus Award.

ACAC created the Nexus Award in 2010 to publicly acknowledge an individual or individuals who have made a profound contribution to contemporary visual art in Atlanta and beyond. The Nexus Award name acknowledges the history of ACAC, which began as Nexus in 1973 and has grown to be a recognized leader in the exhibition and understanding of contemporary art and visual culture.

“Lucinda was the unanimous choice for this year’s award. She is a successful photographer, passionate collector and generous patron of the arts and culture in Atlanta. Given her history with our institution and many others, her selection made perfect sense in our 40th year,” says Stuart Horodner, Artistic Director at ACAC.

Bunnen has traveled the globe taking and exhibiting her photographs, and was instrumental in the founding of Nexus in 1973. Her collection of 20th-century and contemporary photography is spectacular, and she has been a tireless supporter of the city’s institutions, including the High Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, The Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts & Sciences, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Art Papers, and many others.

“It seems like just yesterday when a small group of 13 photographers got together and gave birth to Nexus Photo Gallery,” says Bunnen. “Over the past 40 years I have continued to be involved with Atlanta's widespread and vibrant arts organizations, many of which are now recognized nationally. I am honored to be the recipient of the prestigious Nexus Award for 2013.”

Bunnen will receive the Nexus Award at a ceremony and reception to be held at ACAC on Tue., May 7, 2013.
