Downtown Atlanta Humming With Activity This Weekend

February 15,2013

There’s never a lack of happenings in Downtown Atlanta, but this weekend will be exceptionally entertaining, with several special events being held in the city’s entertainment epicenter. Make your visit to Downtown a little greener and a lot easier by utilizing public transit, carpools or alternative means of transportation.

The whole family can get in on the act at Philips Arena, which kicks off the festivities with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Dragons February 13 – 18.  The Cheersport Cheerleading and Dance national competition will be in Downtown February 14 – 17, bringing more than 900 cheer and dance teams to the Georgia World Congress Center in the largest competition of its kind in the world.

Start your engines for Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam, which returns to the Georgia Dome on February 16. The Bronner Brothers International Hair Show will be showcasing creative coifs February 16 – 19 at the Georgia World Congress Center, and dozens of Downtown restaurants will be offering specially-created menus for Valentine’s Day.

Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) ensure that all attendees find Downtown Atlanta safe, clean and hospitable, with the assistance of the Downtown Ambassador Force. Downtown Ambassadors are on hand seven days a week throughout the central business district to provide directions, recommendations and escort service if needed.

Look for the men and women in navy blue uniforms and white pith helmets to lend a helping hand when you need it. In addition to patrolling the 220-block Downtown area, an Ambassador is stationed at an information kiosk located at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Andrew Young International Boulevard, as well as the Woodruff Park Reading Room.
