Head Over Heels Fundraiser

February 8,2010

Athena’s Warehouse presents Head Over Heels, a prom-themed fundraiser, on March 12, 2010 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Studioplex Lofts. The “adult” prom will feature dancing, cocktails, and a chance to win prizes from Six Feet Under, Twains, POP Jewelry Collective, and more. The suggested donations, $15 in advance and $20 at the door, will come with two drink tickets.

All of the proceeds from the event will go towards dry cleaning and purchasing prom attire for low-income Atlanta high school girls. In return, the girls will donate their time to Project Open Hand. They will assist Open Hand in preparing a portion of the 5,000 meals that are delivered daily to senior clients and chronically-ill patients.

The goal of the program is to show girls that women can empower each other through personal support and public service. The Head Over Heels event plays on the idea of brains over beauty while bringing back a blast from the past: prom.

Head Over Heels is the brainchild of Bee Nguyen, founder of Athena’s Warehouse, whose mother made her own prom dress. She recalls prom as being a rite of passage for many young girls. “Prom is an important event for high school girls. Head Over Heels is a way to remind us that we can help girls in our community have the same fun, but meaningful experience we had.” Athena’s Warehouse acknowledges Studioplex Lofts, Loan South Mortgage, Sanctuary Real Estate, and Sweetwater Brewery for their help in launching the event.

Tickets are available through Athena’s Warehouse’s blog. Contact Bee Nguyen at athenaswarehouse@gmail.com for more information.
