July 4th in Atlanta: Lyft discounts rides to Bobby Brown show, other downtown events

Take Lenox Square Mall canceling its renownedJuly 4th fireworks display, add a performance by Bobby Brown and what do you get? More people than ever expected to converge on Centennial Olympic Park for Tuesday’s annual Fourth of July Celebration.

Sure you can take MARTA or drive yourself and scramble to find parking. That’s your perogative.

Or you can take advantage of discounted Lyft rides to the Centennial Park District. On Tuesday (and very early Wednesday), the ride share service is offering 25 percent off on rides to and from a designated drop-off and pickup location on Centennial Olympic Park Drive south of Baker Street.

There’s a maxium discount of $5 per ride and the offer’s only good at certain times: From noon to 4 p.m. on July 4 and from midnight to 2 a.m. on July 5. To get the discount, visit www.lyft.com/invite/centpark17 or enter code CENTPARK17 in the promo section of the Lyft app.

The discounted rides put folks within walking distance of MARTA and the Atlanta Streetcar, as well as certain major attractions and July 4th events downtown, including: A special July 4th celebration and activities at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta;  the College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan experience (free admission for active and retired military); the Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center and, of course, the Southeast’s largest fireworks display at Centennial Olympic Park.

Centennial Park’s gates will open at 6 p.m., with musical performances starting at 7 p.m. Headliner Bobby Brown will be joined by a lineup that includes Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, former Sounds of Blackness lead singer Ann Nesby, CeCe Peniston ,JFly and Friends and others (read all about the show here).

The fireworks start at 9:45 p.m. For the first time this year, the park’s owner, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority, is partnering with Lenox Square to combine their two enormous -- and enormously popular -- fireworks shows.
