Medical Building Planned Downtown

A more than $17.5 million medical office development is being planned in Downtown Atlanta, according to a building permit filed with the city of Atlanta. The project calls for a 238,000-square-foot office building and parking deck at 206 Edgewood Ave.

Hardin Construction Co., which was listed on the building permit as the applicant, declined comment. Malachi Development LLC was listed as owner in the public filing.

The migration of health care out of expensive hospital settings into inexpensive and more convenient outpatient settings is driving the growth of medical office buildings.

Several major hospital systems, including WellStar Health System and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, have announced, or recently completed, such facilities.
