New Farmer's Market for the Carter Center in March

January 21,2014

There are already a lot of great reasons to visit Atlanta’s Carter Center where you can not only see former President Jimmy Carter’s Noble Peace Prize and other memorabilia and presidential artifacts, but also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lush grounds. Starting in March, Woodland Gardens, a certified organic vegetable, fruit and flower farm in Winterville, Ga. will host a farmers market in Freedom Park at the Center.  Woodland specializes in highly diverse annual production and grows over 80 different varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The Freedom Farmers Market will take place every Saturday and will bring together farmers throughout Georgia. It was formed by a small group of local farmers dedicated to organic production practices with a desire to keep food production local – and thereby delivering the freshest food possible.

The market’s name is a combination of the name of the presidential park (Freedom Park) and the independent spirit of the farmers themselves. The Freedom Farmers Market plans to offer a wide range of local products including fresh produce, bakery goods, cheese and dairy, farm fresh eggs, handmade preserves and honey, prepared meals, fresh coffee and more.

Read more about the market and the opportunities to participate as a volunteer or as a vendor at the Freedom Farmers Market web site.
