April 12,2017

Project for Public Spaces' work on the Southwest Airlines Heart of the Community Woodruff Park Project in Downtown Atlanta was featured as one of the 22 inspiration case studies in the 2017 Participatory Urbanism Forum in Brussels held last week.

"Placemaking in Woodruff Park: The community is the expert"

Anna Siprikova, Elena Madison

Launched in 2014 with lead partner, Project for Public Spaces, Heart of the Community is a signature outreach program of Southwest Airlines with a mission to build connections that bring people together and strengthen communities for a more resilient future.2016 grantee Woodruff Park is poised to become the popular, lively, dynamic gathering place Atlanta's resurging downtown deserves.

Working with stakeholders and community members, Central Atlanta Progress and Project for Public Spaces aim to attract more people to the park, enhance and diversify its existing programs, support daily activities, and improve both its image and perception. We have collaborated with the people who work, study, live in and care about downtown Atlanta to build a shared vision for improving the park.

The improvements included designing and building a multifunctional movable kiosk that will have free games, an outdoor co-work station and much more.
