Public Invited to Participate in Transportation Townhall Meetings

Phones across the Atlanta region will be ringing beginning June 13, as members of the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable involve residents in selecting transportation improvements for the Atlanta region.
This series of telephone townhall meetings will reach out to more than 1 million residents through innovative technology that will allow roundtable members to speak directly with members of the community about the Transportation Investment Act and local transportation priorities. Residents of designated areas will be called at random each night through an automated system and invited to participate in the telephone forum. If they choose to participate, they can discuss their priorities with local Roundtable representatives who are preparing to select projects to be funded by a regional penny sales tax referendum in July 2012.
The telephone townhalls will be held on June 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Residents who participate in the calls will be able to ask questions of and make suggestions to their local elected officials, who will be on the call. To participate, residents simply stay on the line after answering their phones. They will be automatically connected to the meeting. Each night will focus on different counties in the 10-county Atlanta region:
June 13 – Henry County 6 p.m. and Douglas County 7:15 p.m.
June 14 – Cherokee County 6 p.m. and Cobb County 7:15 p.m.
June 15 – DeKalb County 6 p.m.
June 20 – Fayette County 6 p.m. and Gwinnett County 7:15 p.m.
June 21 – Rockdale County 6 p.m.
June 22 – Fulton County 6 p.m. and Clayton County 7:15 p.m.
“The goal of the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable is to come together and, based on public input, create a robust list of transportation projects that will have a positive impact on families and businesses around the entire region,” said Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson, chairman of the Roundtable. “This is a great new way to use the latest technology to better communicate with the public. Not everyone can come to a public meeting. This technology allows us to come to the public. We encourage everyone who is called to participate in shaping our transportation future.”
Anyone who doesn’t receive a call, but wishes to participate in the townhall, can call a toll-free number and enter the appropriate PIN for their area. PIN numbers will be posted online at www.atlantaregionalroundtable.com, where you can sign up to receive email alerts to keep up with the latest news regarding the activities of the Atlanta Regional Roundtable.
