To kick off the Elite Eight round of Atlanta's 2015 tournament, two up-and-coming sections of town (they're practically neighbors) with rich histories will square off. It's time to cast your vote for West End or Downtown Atlanta.

West End, the tournament's top seed, continued its roll in the first round early last week, winning handily over crosstown rival East Atlanta. Supporters make it sound like West End — proud of its historic housing stock and bolstered by the-Beltline-is-coming enthusiasm — is out to prove something in 2015. Here's how one anonymous nominator put it: "I nominate West End because it is the most diverse and vibrant neighborhood in Atlanta with the most amazing neighbors! There are three vegan restaurants in West End, the highest concentration of afrocentric churches and community centers, and some of the most amazing architecture of Atlanta. West End is the best end!"

Meanwhile, ninth-seeded downtown eked out a victory over tony Candler Park in the first round, winning by just 45 votes. Remarkably, downtown has never garnered enough pre-tournament nominations to actually compete for the Curbed Cup trophy, but it's riding a wave of big-time investment that includes two new institutions any Atlantan could be proud of: the College Football Hall of Fame and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. And when it comes to boosterism, downtown's a pro, which should bode well for it here.
