Hartsfield-Jackson Joins the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is building a better tomorrow by participating in the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge (Atlanta BBC).

Atlanta is joining Denver, Washington, Seattle, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif., in this environmental initiative. The Airport's goal is to reduce energy and water consumption by at least 20 percent at its Technical Campus and in its parking decks by 2020.

"The Better Buildings Challenge program has the foundation to make a positive impact throughout the country, and I am happy the Airport is included," said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. "By investing in the necessary improvements today, we can create a better world for generations to come."

Each participant in the Atlanta BBC initiative must complete an energy and water assessment, which will be provided to the building owner at no cost. The assessment team will provide each facility with a detailed analysis of its energy and water conservation options and will make recommendations for implementing the project.

Starting with the Downtown central business district, the Atlanta BBC will unite the public sector with the business and nonprofit communities to implement substantive building upgrades for water and energy conservation. The effort is under way with a benchmarking initiative for Atlanta's 400-block Downtown Improvement District, which is managed by Central Atlanta Progress and includes the Atlanta Civic Center and other municipal facilities.
