Downtown Pop Up Retail Request for Proposals
Due to the overwhelming response to the program, we are no longer able to accept applications. We greatly appreciate your interest in the program and hope to see you Downtown soon.
Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) sought proposals from local businesses, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and artists to participate in a Pop Up retail event to bring new energy and vibrancy to vacant storefronts along the Atlanta Streetcar route.
The Pop Up Retail Event will run April 1, 2014 through July 31, 2014, and will be coupled with promotion and events surrounding the Streetcar opening.
A great opportunity for artists, entrepreneurs, start-up businesses, and local retailers, the Pop Up Program offers a chance to jump into the Downtown market!
With 118,000 workers, over 20,000 residents, and 32,000 Georgia State students, Downtown is an untapped retail market. Check out more Downtown data here.
Central Atlanta Progress will grant up to $500 per each approved Pop Up retailer for start-up and space improvement costs. Funds may be used to finance minor improvements to interior or exterior space, per Landlord/Owner approval.
Space will be provided rent-free for a period of up to four months; the retailer will be responsible for insurance and utility costs, as well as securing a business license.
Application, Approval and Funding Process
Applications were accepted and approved on a rolling basis beginning January 20, 2014. All Pop Up Establishments will be open from April 1, 2014 through July 31, 2014.
Applications were evaluated on the following criteria:
- Potential to activate the corridor via storefront display, business hours, and product offerings.
- Ability of applicant to meet program requirements as noted above.
- Eligibility of project and applicant and completeness of application.
- Availability of Pop Up storefronts and grant funds.
Applicants will be notified of approval on a rolling basis. Spaces will be assigned based on availability, landlord preference and applicant preference.
