STATS, in partnership with Sports Radio 790 The Zone, Big Green Egg, Texas Pete and Beau Rivage, will kickoff the 2009 grilling season with the Downtown Grilldown on Saturday, April 18. An on-air personality from Sports Radio 790 The Zone will emcee the event, giving a play-by-play of the grilling throwdown that will ultimately assign bragging rights to the city’s backyard grilling guru.

Friends, family and fans will fill the stands on STATS’ deck to cheer on their favorite backyard chefs. STATS will provide the arena, and the amateur chefs will bring their favorite gear including pans, utensils and ingredients. Eight teams will step up to the grill, but only one will emerge as Atlanta’s grill master to receive the impressive pack of prizes including a large Big Green Egg for each member, Texas Pete Grill Accessories package, winning photo displayed on Turner Field’s jumbotron and tickets to a Braves game. The winning team also will enjoy a two-night stay at the Beau Rivage complete with two rounds of golf and a $300 resort credit. The second place team will receive a prize package from SCORE Atlanta.

Eight teams will face off on STATS’ deck in a first round matchup where everyone brings their own goods, equipment and edibles. With just two hours to cook off, teams will be allowed to marinate ahead of time, but everything else, including cooking the necessary side dishes, goes down on the deck. This one-day event will culminate in the heart-pounding final round in which the top two teams will go head-to-head for the title using ingredients supplied by STATS.
