Peachtree Street Planters Project

The project location is along Peachtree Street between Andrew Young International Blvd and John Portman Blvd AKA Harris Street. The blocks proximity to high density office towers, Peachtree Center, MARTA and the Mart creates a high level of pedestrian activity which often includes dangerous and illegal street crossings at locations other than signalized crosswalks. This behavior has resulted in at least one fatality. The City temporarily addressed the danger by installing police barricades throughout the block. This project came forward based on our desire to permanently remove the barricades along the City’s signature street while creating a more natural and decorative barrier through the use of in-ground planters, above ground planters and decorative fencing. The planters will be fully landscaped and maintained throughout the year.

Schedule and Sequencing

A ‘Notice to Proceed’ has been issued to the contractor. The total contract duration is 90 days (3 months) with completion expected in June 2012.

Project Approach

All lane and sidewalk closures and detours will be accessible and well-marked. The permitted work hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
