Get creative with The Bakery Atlanta on the Broad Street Boardwalk. Join us in making Exquisite Corpses, Yarn Hoops, and a Community Canvas on Tuesday 4/18 & 4/25 from 12pm-1pm.

Since 2017, our team of artists, creators, and administrators have developed custom exercises that encourage people to experiment, collaborate, and play. Activities like “exquisite corpse,” “yarn hoops,” and “Community Canvas” are based on artistic practice but recalibrated to be publicly accessible.

  • Exquisite Corpses ~ Drawing skills are not required but imagination is a must. Exquisite corpse (cadavre exquis) is a Surrealist game in which multiple people contribute, by drawing, a part or portion of a body (think Frankenstein) on folded paper. Once the paper is unfolded, you will have an exquisite corpse composed by the hands of many.
  • Yarn Hoops ~ Yarn hoops is our answer to the more technical process of Yarn Bombing, a practice whereby an artist knits or crochet a large fabric used to cover objects - from trees to tanks to telephone poles - in the public realm. Participants can take their creation home with them or donate them to The Bakery’s yarn mural.
  • Community Canvas ~ Are you one of those people who thinks they don’t have an artistic bone in their body? Well, we are here to help! There is no right or wrong way to add to the canvas because it is only through accidental mark making and the collaborative process that new possibilities emerge. Googly eyes and pom-poms are welcome.
