Atlanta Interagency Law Enforcement Appreciation and Memorial Service May 22
On Wednesday, May 22, the Downtown community will pay tribute to the public safety agencies that serve throughout the city and state with a ceremony and memorial service hosted by Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID), in partnership with the Atlanta Bar Association and Atlanta Bar Foundation.
On the occasion of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, members of the Atlanta Interagency Law Enforcement (ILE) group will hold a public ceremony in Woodruff Park, starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. near the site of the Police Memorial, which was dedicated by the Atlanta Bar Association in 1980.
“We are grateful to participate in this important service that honors not only the ultimate sacrifices paid by our brothers and sisters in law enforcement, but also the valuable partnerships that enable us to keep Downtown a safe and vibrant place for workers, residents and visitors alike,” said Atlanta Police Chief George Turner.
Program activities include inspirational remarks by civic and government leaders with special presentations from the mounted police color guard, bagpipe music, and "Taps" by a bugler.
ILE comprises the following 11 public safety agencies, who meet monthly in close collaboration and partnerships to serve the Downtown area. They are:
Atlanta Police Department
MARTA Police Department
Georgia State University Police Department
Georgia Tech Police Department
Georgia World Congress Center Authority Public Safety Department
Georgia State Patrol, Capitol Division
Federal Protective Service, DHS
National Park Service
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office
Fulton County Police
Emory University Police
“Our partnerships are vital to the combined public safety efforts in Downtown, and on these occasions we are honored to celebrate the effectiveness of relationships that are nurtured through ILE,” said A.J. Robinson, CAP and ADID President.
