Hurt Building Celebrates 40 Years on National Registry of Historic Places

April 13,2017

April 13, 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of inclusion in the National Registry of Historic Places of the Hurt Building, located at 50 Hurt Plaza in Downtown Atlanta.

The building was erected in 1913 by Atlanta engineer Joel Hurt, who viewed architecture a structural art. After delays due to WWI, the early skyscraper opened in 1924 and was then the 17th largest office building in the world.

In May 2009, the building earned the LEED Gold certification. The building continues to add to the history of Atlanta with the addition of the largest American coffee company, Starbucks, opening on the ground floor in January 2017. This Starbucks is positioned at the corner of the Hurt Building at the intersection of Peachtree Center Ave SE and Edgewood Ave NE and can be accessed from the street and from the lobby.

Atlanta-based Safari Hospitality Management, with 30 years experience, owns and operates this licensed store and is excited to create this beautiful and inviting venue for Georgia State University students, business professionals, and Downtown residents. Starbucks at Hurt Plaza is open Mon - Thur 6:30am - 9:00pm , Fri 6:30am - 7:00pm, and Sat 8:00am - 4:00pm.
