More than 16,000 Participate in Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk

September 14,2012

Runners and walkers took over Downtown Atlanta Thursday as the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk celebrated workplace wellness for the 30th year. More than 16,000 participants tackled the hilly 5K course, which started and ended under the Olympic Rings.

“This was the best year yet,” said Olympian and running expert Jeff Galloway, who produces the race through Phidippides Runners RRCA. “The companies today are in it for the right reason: health promotion, team building and the ability of this event to bring them both together.”

The race was a culmination of an 8-week training program that included complimentary workouts at LA Fitness, training plans and nutritional support. Corporations and small businesses across metro Atlanta promoted the program as a fun way to motivate their employees to get fit together.

“It’s just fantastic that so many people in metro Atlanta are getting around the idea of getting moving,” said Kerry Kohnen, President of Kaiser Permanente of Georgia. “We all know movement is the key to health.”

The goal of the race is to motivate participants to continue their commitment to fitness, Kohnen says.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation, Back on My Feet and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
