12-story SpringHill Suites will bring another 170 rooms to entertainment district

Work is moving along on the latest hotel addition to downtown Atlanta — a SpringHill Suites situated across the street from the Georgia Aquarium.

While site prep started last summer, it’s taken time for the planned 12-story tower to finally start going vertical. The building’s location snuggled up against the high voltage wires that supply power to a large portion of the city can’t be making construction a walk in the park.

The hotel will bring 170 rooms to the entertainment district around Centennial Olympic Park. It’s just the latest example of the Ivan Allen, Jr. Boulevard corridor’s upswing.

In 2015, the Hyatt House Hotel opened down the street, and last year a new apartment tower was proposed to fill a block two blocks to the east. While that project is stalled due to site access issues, Post is well underway with the neighborhood’s first apartment building to be constructed in years.

Look for the hotel to be completed by spring next year.
