Philips Arena Ranks Top in US

Philips Arena, celebrating its 10th anniversary next month, recently received a little birthday present from Pollstar magazine, which pronounced Philips the No. 1 concert and events venue in the United States and the seventh in the world.

The ranking is based on attendance figures at arenas for the first half of 2009, a period during which Philips has offered shows by Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and T.I. along with Thrashers hockey games, Hawks basketball games, wrestling, elephants, comedy and stars on ice.

Upcoming shows at Philips include The Jonas Brothers (Aug. 21), Britney Spears (Sept. 4) and Metallica (Oct. 4).

Philips president Bob Williams pronounced his group “delighted” with the ranking.
