Social Resto Cafe & Bar Offering $15 Weekday Dinner Deals

August 25,2009

Social, located on West Peachtree Place in Downtown, is now offering special $15 dinner deals every weekday. The special changes each day but also includes a glass of house wine with an entree. On Mondays, it is pasta day at Social, featuring spaghetti and meatballs, vegetarian lasagna or grilled chicken linguini in arugula pesto with a glass of house wine.  Or on Tuesdays, visit France for steak frites and a glass of house wine; and on Wednesdays, it’s off to Belgium for steamed mussels, fries and a Stella – all at just $15 per person.

“We make a great team,” notes Rheda “Ray” Chikhaoui as he describes his partnership with his brother Jalil “J”. The two brothers, born and raised in Lyon (France) by Tunisian parents, bring unique strengths to the table – the restaurant table, to be exact. “J has the culinary vision while I have the construction and restaurant design background, and we both love to welcome guests to our two Atlanta-area restaurants, Fina Italian Bistro (www.finatlanta.com/) and now Social (http://socialintown.com/) to enjoy our special brand of European hospitality.”

J, a certified sommelier, is a graduate of two distinctive culinary schools, in Lyon and in Oxford (England). He worked in New York for nine years for world-renowned chefs such as Daniel Boulud, Francois Payard, Charlie Palmer and Geoffrey Zakarian, and also served as the wine director of Vong, Jean Georges Vongerichten’s restaurant.

Ray honed his skills in the area of restaurant design and construction by building Fina Italian Bistro, the brothers’ first venture located in historic College Park, Georgia. This neighborhood favorite opened in 2004, and its success inspired the brothers to open Social, a fun and stylish restaurant, café and bar in downtown Atlanta, right off Peachtree Street on West Peachtree Place, in late 2008.

“We wanted to share our French and North African heritage in a fun and comfortable setting, and Social’s playful menu gives Atlanta diners a lot of well-priced choices,” according to Ray, co-designer with his brother of Social’s menu. The menu is divided into ‘nibblers’, ‘sharing plates’, salads, pastas, entrees and tajines (a type of dish found in various North African cuisines, named after the special clay pot in which it is cooked). Entrée prices range from $11-$23, along with a wide selection of well-priced wines that are available by the glass or bottle. “In addition, during the week we offer $15 dinner specials from different European countries at the bar, so at “Social” you can imagine yourself in Italy, Belgium or France without ever having to get on an airplane!”

Social is open for lunch on Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and Social’s dinner hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. The restaurant is conveniently located within walking distance of many downtown hotels, and is one block south of the Civic Center MARTA station. Paid parking is available in nearby secured lots.
