Sweet Auburn Curb Market Is Home to 'Bargain Books Are Us'

February 15,2011

When Pamela Prayor Culbreath was getting ready to retire in 2010 after a long career at Southern Company, she started making plans to realize one of her life’s dreams – to open her own independent book store in an area that had both lots of history and a potential customer base that would give her new business a jump start. When she found the perfect location at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market in Downtown Atlanta last January, she and her sister Caroline, who is also a co-owner, did not hesitate to open Bargain Books Are Us.

“We are delighted to be a part of the fascinating collection of vendors and restaurants in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, and our customers, such as staff members and visitors from the nearby Grady and Children’s hospitals, area residents, and students, are always delighted to discover our store right here in the heart of Atlanta,” notes Pam. “This area is underserved, and people love our well-priced selection of new and pre-owned books. And we love our regulars, some who stop by almost daily!”

Bargain Books Are Us features best sellers, new releases, novels, self-help books as well as an impressive children’s book section, and the owners can special-order any title. Currently, they focus on (auto)biographies, adult and children’s fiction, books on religion and spirituality, family and relationships, business and economics, health and fitness, as well as history. In celebration of Black History Month, the bookstore will feature various Black Authors and offer 20% off all books between February 21 - 26.

In the near future, the Prayor sisters plan to hold story-time sessions for neighborhood children and hope to connect with local schools to host a book-a-thon offering selected books at disconnected prices. They also want to host a monthly book club as well as book signings by local authors in their cozy store - right in the middle of the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. Bargain Books Are Us is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 AM-6 PM.
