Art in the Park: Legacy In Bloom, A Celebration for Xernona Clayton

On August 28, 2025, we celebrated civil rights trailblazer Xernona Clayton's 95th Birthday. The Legacy in Bloom opening reception was emceed by Frank Blankenship. It included live music and performances by Melvin Miller and Kathleen Bertrand, poetry by Hank Stewart, a DJ set by Sed The Saint, Xernona-inspired ice pops by Mocha Pops, and words by Xernona Clayton herself.

Alongside the celebration was the opening of an extraordinary public art installation that honored Ms.Clayton's incredible legacy. Curated by Dashboard, artists Chloe Alexander, Grace Kisa and Sayma Hossain created stunning works that were on view until the end of October.
