How to Find the Gallery: This event is inside the Fulton County Government Center. The Peachtree Gallery is accessible from the Peachtree Street entrance to the right of Security or from the Pryor Street SW entrance, by walking up the stairs at the Pryor Street level or taking the elevator on the lobby level up to Floor "PT" where you will see the Peachtree Gallery exhibition beside the Security checkpoint.

What: Fulton County arts + tech interns from the Partnership for Innovation transform solar energy data into an interactive public art experience highlighting the growth and impact of the County’s Solar Energy Program.

Join the Public Art Futures Lab and Fulton County’s Sustainability Division for the opening reception of Fulton Brighter Futures, an interactive exhibition celebrating the growth and impact of Fulton County’s Solar Energy Program!

The featured touchscreen data visualization was designed and developed by Partnership for Innovation interns Thaís Alvarenga and Daksh Kapoor, inviting visitors to explore solar energy data, leave their own mark, and imagine a brighter future for Fulton County.

The exhibition will also feature selected works from the Hammonds House Museum Collection curated by Public Art Conservator, Nancy Livengood that reflect the natural and elemental themes of the project.

Parking: Limited paid street parking, paid decks. Fulton County does not validate parking. We recommend carpooling or using MARTA.

MARTA (Train or Rapid Bus): The most direct way to get there is by taking MARTA train to the Five Points Station Transportation From there, leave using the Peachtree Street exit, walk south on Peachtree and enter the Fulton County Government Center from Peachtree Street or cross MLK Jr. Street to enter from the Pryor St entrance. Visitors will be screened by a metal detector upon entering.

About the PIN Interns / Artists and Technologists In Residence:

Thaís Alvarenga and Daksh “DK” Kapoor are GT Digital Media master’s graduates selected for their skills in creative technology, interactive media, visual storytelling, and digital design.

As Partnership for Innovation interns with the Public Art Futures Lab, they contributed to both public art programming and the development of Fulton Brighter Futures. Their work included:

Translating real solar energy data from Fulton County buildings into a public-facing visual experience
Designing and building an interactive website/data visualization
Creating animations, visual elements, and user interaction features
Supporting Public Art Futures Lab summer programs, including STEAM summer camps
Collaborating with the DREAM Sustainability Division to better understand Fulton County’s Solar Energy Program
Visiting Fulton County solar sites and learning directly from the County’s solar energy partner, Cherry Street Energy

About the Public Art Futures Lab: The Public Art Futures Lab is a space to exhibit, experiment, educate and experience the role of technology as it relates to public art. By reducing barriers to creating and participating in this emerging space, the Lab seeks to expand access to cultural enrichment, provide the tools for local artists to thrive and maintain Fulton County's status as a creative cultural capital. The Futures Lab is made possible through the support of our host Underground Atlanta, and our residency partners Downtown Atlanta Inc. and MARTA Artbound along with our Knowledge Partners, Spelman Innovation Lab, Georgia Tech Arts, GSU CMII and our Outreach Partner, Orange Barrel Media and Makerspace Partner; Freeside Atlanta, and Industry Partner; Lightscape Lighting and Equipment.

About the DREAM Sustainability Solar Energy Project: Fulton County’s Sustainability Division has been implementing the county’s solar program since 2020, when the county entered into a 20-year Solar Energy Purchase Agreement with Cherry Street Energy. With this agreement, the county is able to have solar panels installed at no upfront cost.

In 2021 and early 2022, the county installed solar panels on seven buildings. These installations saved the county approximately $140,000 through the end of 2024, inspiring the county to add 35 more buildings to the Cherry Street contract in December 2024. Solar was primarily added to the additional buildings in 2025, with a few buildings completed in 2026. The 35 new buildings are expected to save the county $2 million over the 20- year term. The Sustainability Division is working with Cherry Street to explore any remaining buildings that can be added to the program.

About the PIN Program Summer Internship: The Partnership for Innovation (PIN) Summer Internship Program supports project-based internship opportunities across the Southeast that connect emerging talent with civic-based projects. Through the program, interns contribute specialized skills to projects that advance public service, innovation, community impact, and cross-department collaboration.

For this project, Partnership for Innovation funding helped support a part-internship, part-artist-residency model that placed creative technologists within the Public Art Futures Lab to work at the intersection of sustainability, public art, data visualization, and civic engagement.
