Northside Drive Improvements
The Georgie Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently approved the Concept Report for pedestrian safety improvements along Northside Drive between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Rhodes Street. Along this segment, the project will improve pedestrian comfort and connectivity to the MARTA Vine City rail station, the Mercedes-Benz stadium, and the Georgia World Congress Center facilities.

The two key conceptual elements of the conceptual safety improvements are:
- Sidewalk widening
- Pedestrian “curtains” to deter jaywalking, including in-ground planter beds and a raised center median

The utility, right of way, and construction phases of the Northside Drive project include federal funding provided through the Atlanta Regional Commission. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in 2022.
The segment between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Rhodes Street is intended to be the first segment in a larger Northside Drive safety improvement project. Funding for additional segments of the roadway is not yet secured.
