3 Ways to Celebrate Dragon Con in Woodruff Park 2019
July 22, 2019
The big convention will be here before you know it, and Woodruff Park is your destination to celebrate pop (and pup) culture in the weeks leading up to Dragon Con. Here are three ways to get in the spirit.
Doggy Con - Saturday, August 17
This event, hosted on the Woodruff Park lawn, gives your pup a chance to get in on the cosplay fun. Register online for $10 to compete in a costume contest judged by local celebrities (including Karen Anderson of Tiny Doors ATL and Punk Rock Milo, doggo in residence at the Masquerade) and some pretty sweet prizes up for grabs (include two day-passes to Dragon Con!). Doggy Con will also include food trucks, a vendor village, and a yappy hour with a cash bar hosted by Steady Hand Beer Co. Pups, brews, frivolity - what more could you ask for?
Dragon Con Welcome Party - Friday, August 30
Join the Fulton County and Clayton County Libraries for a party to welcome Dragon Con for it's 33rd year of making Labor Day Atlanta's Favorite Holiday! Bring your lunch and enjoy free activities, including: virtual reality gaming, Atari Flashback, Nintendo NES, drones, giant yard games, a photo booth, button making, drawing with 3D pens, a DJ, and a pop-up library with all your favorite comics and graphic novels. This event is FREE and open to the public
Woodruff Park Fountain Goes Purple - August 29-September 1
Finally, Woodruff Park's iconic International Peace Fountain, located on the north plaza adjacent to Auburn Avenue, will be dyed purple, the official Dragon Con brand color, from August 29-September 1. While in Downtown, visitors and locals are encouraged to use the fountain as a fun backdrop for impromptu costume photo shoots and selfies.
