Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week FAQ Guide

We’re here to answer a few key questions you may have as #DARW2016 approaches.

Why a restaurant week, and how did it begin 14 years ago?

A few years ago, as you may remember, local businesses across the country were suffering. Inspired by successful restaurant weeks in cities like New York and Boston, the Central Atlanta Progress staff put on Downtown’s first restaurant week 14 years ago, encouraging people to dine out and support the restaurant scene in the heart of the city. Now, in 2016, Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week remains a vital annual initiative to promote local businesses and encourage Atlantans to Be Downtown.

How are participating restaurants selected?

All Downtown restaurants that are Central Atlanta Progress dining partners are invited to participate, but participation is completely voluntary. The list changes year to year, meaning we have a great selection of classic standbys and new-to-the-scene dining options.

How are the Restaurant Week dates selected?

We carefully examine the Downtown calendar to find an optimal week for this promotion, one that doesn’t coincide with too many conferences, conventions and major events that would leave our dining partners overwhelmed. Once we identify a few date options, we work with our dining partners to select the week that works best for the majority.

Why should I make reservations? Are walk-ins welcome?

Walk-ins are certainly welcome, but we definitely encourage you to make reservations! Because of the great savings the Restaurant Week prix fixe menus offer, restaurants see an uptick in traffic. Without a reservation, you may not be able to dine where and when you want.

What is Business Bites? Can I go?

Business Bites is our lead-up event to Restaurant Week and is simply a fun opportunity to get the Downtown community excited and motivated to make reservations. Participating restaurants volunteer to provide delicious, sample-sized tastings of their Restaurant Week menu offerings. This year, restaurants will be set up at Peachtree Center on July 20, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and 191 Peachtree Tower (lobby level) on July 20, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

I don’t know Downtown very well. What else can I do when I come down for lunch or dinner?

We’re glad you asked! Downtown has a variety of attractions, parks, tours and amenities for you to enjoy. You can explore them all on our website.

How do I get to Downtown?

Downtown has the highest concentration of transit options in the city: come by car, by bike, by bus, by rail, by foot or by Streetcar. It’s a great week to try something new!

What should I eat?

An upscale steak dinner? A casual pizza lunch? A swanky hotel restaurant? A dreamy date night spot? A restaurant nestled in the heart of a historic neighborhood? We’ve got plenty of options. #DevourDowntown with us July 23-31!
