#BeDowntown for These Weekend Events: July 29-31

Is summer really almost over? That was fast. Enjoy this lineup of events before back to school season is in full effect.

1. Drum Corp International Band Competition, The Georgia Dome

Drum Corp International's tagline says it all: marching band's major league. Check out their Southeastern Championship this weekend at the Dome for a day quite literally packed with performances. Tickets are available for purchase online. Don't forget how accessible the Dome is via MARTA, and keep in mind that the clear bag policy will be in effect.

2. Family Day Culture Fest, Sweet Auburn

A day-long celebration of the cultural richness that Sweet Auburn offers the city of Atlanta and the world. Co-organized by Sweet Auburn Works, the National Park Service, and the National Black Arts Festival,  this event will be held on Auburn Avenue, between Jackson St. and Howell Street, on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Activities include Sweet Auburn storytelling, Sweet Auburn neighborhood tours, artistic performances, cooking demos and more.

3. Educator Day, College Football Hall of Fame

Just in time for school! The Hall will host its own “Educator Day” and offer FREE admission to teachers and principals with valid identification from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Educators can also learn about our freeT.E.A.M.S. ™ curriculum – a comprehensive lesson plan focused on Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Science. The Hall’s compelling educational experience is sure to bring your class to its feet!

4. The Wizard of Oz: Young Performer's Edition, Balzer Theater at Herren's

The SummerStage program of our professional company, Theatrical Outfit, is a month-long performance-based program designed for kids ages 10 to 15 who are serious about theater, but also looking for a summer filled with fun, friends and performance skill-building in a nurturing environment. This summer's culminating show is The Wizard of Oz, with a Friday night performance and two Saturday shows. There's no place like home...or the Balzer Theater!

5. Closing: Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week

Restaurant Week makes a great pairing to anything you might come to Downtown for, whether it's stopping in at Soul Bar at Pals Lounge during Family Day Culture Fest or enjoying a restaurant along Peachtree before heading to the theater.
