Things To Do in Downtown Atlanta: Memorial Day Weekend Edition
May 24, 2018
Sticking around town for the holiday weekend, or visiting ATL on a getaway? We've got a brief roundup of great events to check out across the greater Downtown Atlanta area, from the heart of Fairlie-Poplar to historic Grant Park. #BeDowntown for the fun:
Kick off your weekend at this special lunchtime event in Woodruff Park. Eight trucks will be stationed along the Peachtree Street perimeter of the park, between Luckie and Poplar Streets. The festivities will be accompanied by live music from local performers, and café seating with umbrellas will be available throughout the park. Check out the menu here.
FlatironCity is throwing a ChooseATL party in Downtown Atlanta's first commercial district and historic neighborhood, Fairlie-Poplar. We'll be out on the boardwalk on Broad (right outside the Flatiron) with some of our favorite foods from Downtown - ranging from Rosa's Pizza to Figo - local brews, live music and an epic cornhole championship. This event is free to attend, but an RSVP is required to enjoy the food and beverages.
In celebration of the Dream's season opener on Saturday, May 26 and in partnership with Coca-Cola, enjoy a free Tipoff Tailgate outside McCamish Pavilion from 2:30 PM-5:00 PM. Enjoy food trucks, games, giveaways and much more, then head inside to see the Dream take on the Dallas Wings.
Bonus: In celebration of star player Angel McCoughtry's 5,000 career points, for every ticket you purchase, the seat next to it costs just $5! Offer lasts until 6:00 p.m. on May 25. Get tickets here.
While you sip among the wildlife and enjoy groovy local tunes, your ticket supports conservation initiatives to protect species and their habitats, here at home and around the globe. Enjoy over 70 selections of brews, and a limited selection of wine, all within an exotic outdoor destination that’s home to more than 1,000 animals from around the world, including giant pandas and one of the largest populations of great apes in North America. Get tickets.
Bonus: Zoo Atlanta has partnered with Lyft to provide FREE* (*up to $10) rides to the Zoo from the Five Points and King Memorial MARTA stations (and from the Zoo back to Five Points or King Memorial MARTA stations.) Learn more.
Sunrise and sunset often conjure metaphors of life, death, and transition. Join Oakland Cemetery and Arts at Oakland for the last weekend of Golden Hour, the 10-day, outdoor exhibition by Dashboard US with guest curator Oshun Layne. Saturday, May 26 is Golden Hour's Family Day! Come and explore the Golden Hour Exhibition with tours appropriate for the whole family and take part in art-making suitable for budding artists of all ages. The exhibit closes on Sunday, May 27.
The Inaugural Atlanta Memorial Day 5K Classic will pay homage to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have sacrificed their lives for their country. The Soldier's Final Mile will pay tribute to the fallen heroes that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The race begins in Woodruff Park on Monday, May 27. Sign up here.
Last but certainly not least, have an only-in-ATL experience in Downtown's Centennial Park District, home to iconic attractions like the Center for Civil and Human Rights, the College Football Hall of Fame, CNN Studio Tours, and World of Coca-Cola. This is your stop for #EverythingATL, offering something for everyone.
