Woodruff Park Happenings
September 22, 2017
You may have noticed a new flurry of activity in the park, from special events to free programs to that big green Game Cart. We’ve got the rundown on what’s happening in Woodruff over the next few weeks—don’t miss out on the fun!
1. Atlanta Streets Alive: Central Route
Atlanta’s favorite car-less festival returns to Peachtree Street (with a new extension to S. Broad St) from Downtown to Midtown, and Woodruff Park will have plenty happening. Ride, scoot, walk, or skip into the park to enjoy the Game Cart, learn about Pop Up Repair, enjoy music from the DJ, view the Georgia Chalk Artists Guild Pop Up Chalk Festival, and much more.
2. Pop Up Repair
We’ve partnered with Freeside Atlanta and Pop Up Repair to bring the first-ever Woodruff Park Pop Up Repair to Downtown Atlanta! Pop Up Repair will debut during Streets Alive, but you can come to the park to drop off your household items in need of repair through September 30. Repaired items will be available for pickup October 7-10 at Broad Street Plaza (where we hold our #FoodTruckFridays event in spring and summer).
3. Fall Programming
We’re continuing to offer the free programs we launched this summer. Come to the park for free yoga on Saturday mornings, free guided meditation on Tuesdays at noon, live performances on Wednesday during lunch, and free guided park history tours on designated dates. Don’t miss out on our new Game Cart, either—you can check out board games and lawn games to enjoy with friends at no cost.
4. WoodRUFF Bark Halloween Dog Parade & Festival
Are you a dog lover and/or dog owner? WoodRUFF Bark, our newest event, is just for you! On Saturday, October 28, we’ll be holding a costumed pet parade on the Main Lawn, with prizes available for the best costumes. Judges include Addie the Sheepadoodle, best known as @sheepish_addie on social media. We’ll have lots of pet-friendly vendors and pet-centric organizations on site, in addition to food, beverages and a Halloween playlist. Bring your pup and your friends! Interested in being an onsite vendor, having an onsite marketing activation, or in sponsoring our event? We're still recruiting those, too.
5. The Downtown Daffodil Dash 5K
You may have noticed the many daffodils that bloom in the park each spring. Did you know that these flowers are part of the socially-conscious Downtown Daffodil Project and Worldwide Daffodil Project? On November 11, run or walk the Downtown Daffodil Dash, then contribute to the daffodil project by planting a new bulb in the park after you’ve completed the route.
It’s a great time to #BeDowntown, especially in Woodruff.
